Don’t Brag

I’m brilliant – did you know that? I used to play stand-up comedy clubs with some pretty big names. I’ve given some great talks and written some brilliant blog posts. Impressed?

Recently I’ve seen a few speakers start with all their amazing achievements to validate themselves. However, it turns me off; I’ve granted them the authority to speak to me by sitting down and listening – the only proof I want that this was a good decision will be in the talk, speech or presentation itself. Telling me how great they are just gets in the way.

No matter who you are, you audience cares about one thing: what’s in it for them. So:

Give them what they need to know. Nothing more.

I hope I just did that.
