I think I’m different to most people, perhaps even slightly weird, and I love it. Michael Lazerow is responsible for an inspiring piece here on being weird, in which he writes:
‘Normal is blah. You don’t want to be blah. Blah is boring. Boring people are forgettable. I like weirdos. They are interesting. They have crazy ideas. They have passion.’
I think there’s a clear difference between just trying to be weird for the sake of it (which is just attention-seeking, right?) and genuinely being unconventional because that’s who you are.
Being weird isn’t cool when you’re young; you don’t want to be singled out and ridiculed. But when you gain real confidence, being weird or different can become very important indeed.
And as an adult, you know how important being different can be for financial gain.
Be yourself. And if that self is a bit weird, then all power to you…
