Want to be unafraid when speaking?
Then remember, simplicity is the key to confident, effective communication. Don’t worry about including everything – if they want to hear more, they’ll ask. Be conversational; don’t use grandiose language (the bigger the audience, the more effective being conversational is). Try to have empathy with your audience, and consider what they want. Be in the moment; adapt and create as necessary to convey your information, message and character (yes, character – you’re probably a lot more interesting than you think). So:
Keep things simple.
- Remove the pressure of perfection – don’t have a rigid script.
- Use stories. Reel them in with your unique experiences.
- Talk, listen, interact.
Immediately before your conversation, presentation or interview, remember that whatever you say should come naturally. Missing something out doesn’t matter, because a conversational style uses flow and interaction, while also conveying… confidence.
Simple.
