In a world where eloquence is vanishing, where we are easily distracted and swept away into an intoxicating maelstrom of messages, information and entertainment, it’s all too easy to lose sight of what matters. Is it – on the one hand – a meaningful interaction between human beings; simple, direct and comforting, or is it – on the other – this wonderful cocktail of tweets, updates and links to other people’s inspirational work? One could argue that the very best presentation, or any communication for that matter, appeals to all senses, to the intellect as well as the emotions. Consider for yourself how the greatest minds of our time have brought their ideas into the public eye and brought about change in a way that has truly changed hearts and minds.
Well, that’s one way of putting it. Here’s another:
Taking too long to get to the point spoils your communication. It can frustrate and confuse your audience, while also making you look rather fond of your own brilliance.
