Want to achieve speaking confidence?
Of course you do – it’s the key to everything you desire: success at an interview, interest on a date, or being convincing at your work review.
I bang on about getting speaking experience, but also vital for your growth is doing the research:
- analysing your favourite speakers (stand-up comics, TED speakers, former teachers).
- reading about techniques for writing, delivery and mindset.
I find that while doing research online can be effective – and extremely convenient – there’s something very engaging about the information in a good book; I’ve read plenty on the subject of confidence, speaking and speech-making, and the best ones feel more thorough than a short online article by someone with little credibility, with context and related areas all covered in depth.
For me, the information buried in a book is hidden treasure. It’s in a place that anyone can access, but most people won’t bother because of the barrier of effort (and money) required to reach it. If you really want this (and I think you do) then you’ll find a bookshop you like – and/or those [prepared to lend you their books – and start your journey.
Find recommendations for books, buy/borrow, and read them. Yes, I know it takes effort. But it’s effort that others won’t bother to put in.
