We’re so keen to be liked, to be approved of, to be seen as nice. But if your presentation is about something that really riles you, then try showing a little of that anger, because the chances are it’ll stir the fire in some of your audience, too. Here are two pretty important anger-related things to remember when presenting:
- Passion is essential (see my post ‘Release the Fury’).
- Challenging convention can be powerful (see my post ‘Challenging Behaviour’).
And here’s a third:
- Speaking out against injustice of any kind.
This third one is a biggie. It encompasses the other two, but is so much more: it’s utterly heroic, particularly in any environment where people are afraid to speak their minds (perhaps where you work).
Anger is not always negative; in fact, when it provides the energy for something eloquent and justified, it can be very positive indeed.
