Being interesting is vital for good communication. But how to achieve it?
Something I’m fascinated with is how to be interesting. People ask me about how to achieve this for various situations, whether they are networking or just meeting people for the first time. And I think one of the most important elements is being different.
It’s being curious, it’s being odd, weird, strange, and the step towards achieving that is to embrace your weirdness, your flaws and the thing which you wouldn’t normally talk to people about in a professional business setting. Talk to them about your interest in music, or food, or cinema and a thing which drives you, but also own your flaws, own the things that you get wrong, because you might find these are common elements.
I find if I have the courage to confess the stupid thing that I did yesterday with someone who’s a complete stranger, actually sometimes there’ll be a lovely connection because I’m opening up, I’m showing vulnerability and that’s how you gain trust, and that’s how you become interesting, by just being your authentic self, flaws and all, be original, be yourself, be odd.
