If you feel that your presentations aren’t really grabbing your audience – don’t give a presentation, have a conversation:
+ Try to be informal. Your subject may be important or serious, but a light touch may make it easier for your audience to accept.
+ Be authentic. If you’ve had a bad experience, you might bond with your audience by sharing it (the more petty and relatable, the better the comedy value).
+ Don’t just broadcast. Try asking questions – and actually listening to the answers.
+ Have fun. Effective communication doesn’t just come from clarity, it comes from connecting with your audience.
‘Having a chat’ may seem too casual, but it may be exactly the approach you need to make your next talk really resonate.
