There’s no easy way to put this.
But, much like physical fitness*, speaking confidence comes from showing up and putting in the reps.
Repeatedly, consistently and especially when you don’t feel like doing it!
👟 Speak up at the meeting, just for ten seconds.
👟 Talk about your work at the daily stand-up, for a couple of minutes.
👟 Put yourself forward to present the team’s progress to the whole company.
Every time you speak, you’re strengthening your confidence ‘muscles’. You’re also being noticed. Stack those moments and over time you’ll see real progress. Then, one day, someone will say’ “Would you go to this conference to deliver a talk?”
They’ll ask because you’ve demonstrated your ability. You’ll accept because you’re ready.
It’s an adventure. But you have to put in the reps.
* (in this metaphor, I’m a fitness coach. I get you and your team to do the things you already know you need to do. But I make it fun and easy.)
